We just want to say how happy we are with our recent purchase of a Lotus 19ft Trooper. We travelled for eight weeks in it within a month of purchasing. We travelled from Brisbane to Cairns stopping at free camps along the way. We only stopped in caravan parks when necessary, usually just in the big cities. We found that with the two 120watt solar panels we had more than enough power to run the van. From Cairns we travelled across the Gulf to Karumba along the wheelbarrow and Savannah way. Due to the recent flooding some sections of roads were still closed and others so we had to detour a little. Considering the dusty conditions we were extremely happy with how dust proof the van was. The van handled the corrugated roads and small creek crossings very well. The van was really good to tow. From
Karumba we continued to Burketown, Cape Crawford, Daly River and then to Darwin. We gave the van a well deserved clean in Darwin. We then moved on to Kings Canyon and Ayers Rock, Coober Pedy and Williams Creek where we saw the sights of lake Eyre in full flood and then we headed back to home in Brisbane. We did approximately 13,500 kilometres in total. Approximately 2,000 kilometres was on dirt roads.
Many people would ask how the van was handing the dirt roads when they saw how dirty the van was. They were very surprised when we said that we weren’t getting much dirt inside the van. All in all we were extremely happy with the van as we could not find fault with it even if we tried. After returning home and a couple of days of cleaning, the van is almost new again. We would just like to say thank you very much to Lester and Paul of Gold Coast Caravans for all their help and guidance when purchasing our new van, and also for staying back and delivering the van when promised. We have included some photos of our trip.We have also included pictures of some of the roads that we travelled on and the little creek crossings that we went through.
